America and bad PR

A social media project to try and undermine the Cuban communist government…hmm interesting. Americans tried to create a new form of Twitter called ZunZuneo.  ZunZuneo is a forum for Cubans to interact and be able to catch up on the latest news and happenings.  The project managed to draw around 40,000 Cubans at one point.  The only sketchy part about this was, the subscribers had no idea that it was run by Americans.  Not only was it run my Americans but this site was being used as a means to collect information for political purposes.  Since the Cold War we have had issues with Cuba, and this only seems to add fuel to the fire.  The plan may have originated from USAID, which makes me question the organization as well.  I see why this is an issue, Cubans need political freedom.  Is it our place to try and give it to them?  This is one of the many issues that is controversial about America and its use of power.

This boils down to the U.S. as a superpower, we should probably hire a PR agency for the country.  I’m not trying to make this a political piece where I am arguing against more military power or saying that American imperialism is awful.  But, America has a pretty bad rep.  We are known to be a super power, that goes into smaller countries and exerts our power.  It has happened countless times, especially in North America.  There are so many comics depicting American imperialism.    Image

Is this a good rep? I guess it means people don’t want to mess with us?  There are also so many other problems in America that could use the help of a PR firm.  A PR firm could really help us with our image, make us more appealing to the smaller countries who are afraid. We also could use some help easing tensions with China, considering our severe debt and the amount of money they have lent us, they basically own us.  A talented PR liaison could definitely be used between officials in the middle east an Americans. So, America needs to save its image, if only there was a PR firm willing to take on such a large task….
